Brutalist Beauty Meets Coastal Calm at The Viola House
Tucked away in the leafy enclave of Florida Gardens, on one of Broadbeach Waters’ most coveted streets, The Viola House makes a bold architectural statement—without ever raising its voice. This is a home that doesn’t merely occupy its environment; it elevates it.
Designed by the acclaimed building designer Jayson Pate, expertly crafted by Bradford Constructions, and brought to poetic life inside by Studio Yugen’s thoughtful layouts, the residence is further enriched by the owner Esther’s impeccable eye for styling. The Viola House stands as a compelling study in contrasts: raw yet refined, minimalist yet deeply expressive.
From the street, The Viola House maintains a sense of quiet privacy. But as you move down the driveway, the home reveals itself in dramatic fashion. Its striking façade immediately commands attention—an arresting display of contemporary brutalist influences, defined by strong geometric lines, paired-back textures, and a material palette that celebrates the raw beauty of concrete, timber, and steel.
Gardens thoughtfully designed by JSW Landscapes, the surrounding gardens don’t merely frame the home—they become an extension of it. Lush yet restrained, the landscaping blurs the line between built form and nature, grounding the architecture within its environment with effortless sophistication.

Where Organic Warmth Softens Industrial Strength.
The interiors of this home are nothing short of exceptional, where raw concrete surfaces are beautifully offset by the richness of walnut accents. It’s a masterful interplay of texture and tone—industrial edge softened by organic elegance.
At the heart of the home, the kitchen makes a bold statement, anchored by a striking slab of Viola Calacatta marble that commands (hence the name) attention as the true focal point. In the butler’s pantry and laundry, Con Bone 50x100 tiles introduce a subtle warmth, adding depth and cohesion to these hardworking spaces while reinforcing the home’s refined and tactile materials.
The Viola Calacatta marble makes a return in the lounge, this time paired beautifully with rich walnut shelving that brings both warmth and depth to the space. Designed to be a cosy retreat, the room is anchored by a contemporary fireplace and softened with neutral grey accents that lend a sense of calm.
What truly elevates this space, however, is the seamless connection between indoors and out—large openings allow natural light to flood in, creating a timeless flow that enhances both comfort and atmosphere.

Confidence in Every Curve and Tile
The downstairs showcases an unforgettable powder room, featuring a bold and striking crazy pave of mixed marble—an eye-catching design statement that can also be echoed in the master ensuite for a cohesive luxury feel. Soktas lighting enhances the bathroom ambiance, adding a touch of glam and elevating the overall aesthetic. In contrast, the remaining bathrooms embrace a more relaxed, neutral palette.
The combination of Tuff White Vein tiles in 600x1200mm and Nor Grey Matt tiles in 300x600mm creates a serene and balanced atmosphere. The subtle interplay between grey and beige tones brings warmth and harmony to the space, proving that simplicity can still be sophisticated.
The recurring presence of rich walnut tones serves as a unifying element throughout the space, seamlessly tying together various design components while infusing the environment with a sense of warmth and depth. These dark, natural wood accents introduce a tactile richness that contrasts beautifully with the clean, minimal aesthetic of white linen textures.
The interplay between the earthy walnut and the crisp linen creates a balanced visual tension—one that feels both grounded and elevated. This thoughtful layering of materials not only adds dimension and character, but also evokes a calm, curated atmosphere that feels simultaneously timeless and modern.

Forget playing it “safe” - this is full-on mood lighting.
Deep tobacco velvets, smoky glass, and vintage brass fixtures bring theatrical flair that’s sultry without trying too hard.
Our creative director Jas’ tip is to mix a sculptural brass pendant with plush velvet cushions for maximum drama that still feels cosy.
