We caught up with Brooke from Vloom Designs to talk about her latest pool creations and the inspiration behind them.
TBR : When selecting pool tiles, what factors are most important to you — is it durability, slip resistance, or the overall visual appeal?
B: I’d say it’s always a balance of all three — durability, slip resistance, and aesthetics — but the weighting really depends on the space and how the pool will be used. Durability and slip resistance are the foundations, but the design aesthetic is what gives the pool its personality and sets the mood of the entire outdoor space.
TBR : What would be your advice to clients designing their pool and choosing pool tiles and layouts currently?
B: Your pool tiles should complement your home’s overall design concept and the surrounding outdoor area. Choose tiles that perform well in water, keep safety in mind, and let the design reflect how you want the pool to feel within your lifestyle. A great design feature is incorporating a large step for families with young children to safely play on.
TBR : We know you love to take risks and go bold with your style — how or where do you find inspiration to make such bold decisions (that are definitely worth it!)?
B: For this pool design at our Arcadia project, I took cues from mid-century modern palettes, where strong geometric lines and vibrant tones work together to create impact. At the same time, I was inspired by the Australian landscape — the earthy warmth of sunbaked clay, and how those natural hues glow under our harsh sun. It’s not just a swimming pool; it’s a design statement that reflects a love of risk-taking, energy, and creating spaces that spark joy. As long as your bold decisions are thoughtfully considered, it’s always been worth it in our experience. Why stick to the norm when you can create something that feels distinctly yours!
