Mediterranean Soul, Queensland Living

There are homes that impress, and then there are homes that transport. Maŕea belongs firmly to the latter—a residence that captures the spirit of a grand Mediterranean villa, reimagined for Queensland living, with quiet confidence and refined ease

Set within Mermaid Waters, Marea unfolds as a study in light, proportion, and materiality. From the moment of arrival, the experience is intentional. A sequence of soft arches and soaring ceilings draws the eye forward, where arched windows frame the outdoors like curated artwork. The transition between inside and out feels instinctive—an architectural gesture that anchors the home to the Broadbeach skyline..

Brought to life by Corinne and Shane of HOVEN, the design reflects a deeply considered vision. There is restraint here, but never absence. Every curve, junction, and finish has been resolved with purpose, resulting in a home that feels both expansive and grounded—luxurious without excess.

At its heart, the open-plan living and kitchen reveal a layered material palette that defines the home’s character. Spotted gum flooring introduces warmth underfoot, while Hollywood-toned cabinetry by Návurban adds richness and depth. Stone benchtops bring a tactile softness, their natural variation complementing the surrounding textures. Hardware by Lo & Co punctuates the palette with quiet precision, completing a composition that feels cohesive rather than composed.

Light plays an essential role throughout. It filters through sheer curtains, softening edges and enriching tonal depth. As daylight recedes, a considered lighting scheme takes over, with Dusk lighting by We Ponder casting a warm, ambient glow—effortlessly transitioning the home from day to evening.

Shane :  "it’s a bit different to what we have traditionally done in this Mediterranean style, so it’s challenged us a little. It’s been good to get out of our comfort zone".

Corinne, I love the arches—they are such a showstopper. When you see the rooms with the arches, I just love them;
they add so much wow factor.

The interior styling further elevates the narrative, balancing playfulness with sophistication. Rust tones sit against a base of creamy neutrals and soft beiges, creating a palette that feels both inviting and enduring. Beyond, the outlook stretches across the pool to the Broadbeach skyline—a subtle reminder of the home’s connection to both water and city.

A secondary living zone introduces a more intimate, grown-up atmosphere. Here, a sculptural bar becomes the centrepiece, framed by signature arches and designed to open seamlessly onto the outdoor entertaining area. This fluid connection between spaces captures a distinctly Queensland way of living—where boundaries dissolve and the home expands to meet its environment.

Upstairs, the master suite unfolds as a private sanctuary. Curved walls envelop the space, while olive tones and warm timber accents create a sense of calm. The adjoining walk-in robe is generous yet refined, leading into an ensuite that feels both grand and restorative. A freestanding bath, dual shower, and layered materials transform the space into an experience, not just a function.

Each additional bedroom continues this narrative of individuality and cohesion. Walk-in robes and ensuites are thoughtfully appointed, with each wet area expressing its own identity through carefully selected tiles and finishes. The palette—greens, rusts, and earthy browns—remains consistent, yet never repetitive.

What defines Maŕea is not a single feature, but the cohesion of many. Architecture, interiors, and landscape exist in quiet dialogue—each element supporting the next. From wallpapers and hardware to the interplay of timber, lighting, and stone, every decision contributes to a unified whole.

Maŕea is, ultimately, a home of feeling. One that invites pause, rewards attention, and lingers long after you leave—a rare and thoughtful expression of coastal living, where Mediterranean influence meets Queensland lifestyle, and where every arch leaves its mark.
