We love a home renovation reveal here at Three Balls Red, and this one is extra special.

At the end of the tumultuous and trying year that was 2020, we teamed up with some of our favourite brands – Studio Yugen, Meir Australia, Ingrain Designs, We Ponder, Concrete Nation and Middle of Nowhere – to gift a lucky homeowner with a brand new bathroom for Christmas.

The Vieceli family from Miami on Queensland’s Gold Coast were the lucky winners.

Here we chat with Karrie-Anne about the renovation process, and tour her inspiring new space.

Can you tell us a little bit about your family abode?

Our home is located in Miami, Queensland, a dream suburb close to the beach with great coffee, amazing restaurants and lots of our friends all at our doorstep. We decided to renovate our entire home, essentially keeping its shell and changing the entire inside to create a home full of beauty. We chose some incredible artisan finishes and products including handcrafted Moroccan and Spanish handmade tiles, concrete basins and benches and lots of rendered and timber finishes. Our home isn't huge, but we hope to create a comfy and beautiful home that we love living in.

Why did you enter the Win a Dream Bathroom for Christmas competition, and what was your bathroomclike previously?

The prizes and brands taking part in this competition were absolutely incredible! It really is the ultimate prize with the most beautiful and unique artisan products, which we love. Our bathroom was in an absolute state of disrepair with a terrible design and tiles falling off the wall. We had plans to renovate the bathroom this year and winning this bathroom competition has allowed us to use that renovation budget towards the house renovation. We are super grateful to have won.

How would you describe your interior style for this new space?

I'd describe it as a pared-back beauty, a space that feels lovely to be in and makes you feel calm and grounded. We have used lots of light earthy tones to help create this feeling which has also allowed the artisan products to be showcased and really speak for themselves.

Tell us about the Three Balls Red tile selections, and what other products were you coveting for this space?

The tile options at Three Balls Red are mind-blowingly beautiful so it made it very hard to choose my favourites. The team were so helpful to deal with and, after a little indecision, I went with the Spanish handmade Vestige in Gesso (13cm x 13cm) as the feature tile and the Spanish Rockstone in Beige (60cm x 60cm) for the floors and other walls. I fell in love with another Moroccan Zellige clay tile in my kitchen.
The bathroom also features an Arc Basin in Stone by Concrete Nation, a stunning handmade, Gatwick-style vanity in recycled Messmate timber by Ingrain Designs and handmade ceramicwall lights by We Ponder. The tapware is in Champagne by Meir Australia.
The girls at Studio Yugen helped with the interior design renders to bring my vision to life!
A special mention to the incredible trades who helped bring the space together. Thank you to Plumbing Works Gold Coast, PBR Electrical and Guaranteed Tiling.

What were some non-negotiables for you when it came to the bathroom renovation?

For me, it was all about the feeling. It had to feel calming and beautiful. Functionality of the space did play a big part in the design as this bathroom services the four of us and we had to work with some existing plumbing and windows.

You studied interior design and are passionate about interiors. Who or what are some of your design inspirations?

I sure did, and yes, I love all things interiors and interior design! What I love the most is how spaces can make you feel. I am forever inspired by nature, their colours, form and textures, raw materials and items made by hand by creatives doing what they are most passionate about.
I am also inspired by so many talented interior designers, stylists, architects.
There are too many to name!
